Applications of Silver Tungsten Carbide (Ag-WC)

1.High-Voltage Electrical Contact Materials
Ag-WC combines the excellent electrical conductivity of silver with the high hardness and anti-welding characteristics of tungsten carbide. It is extensively used in high-voltage circuit breakers such as vacuum or oil circuit breakers. When switching large currents, electric arcs occur, but Ag-WC resists welding and erosion, improving the switch's lifespan and arc control reliability.

2.Heavy-Duty Industrial Relays and Contactors
In mining, metallurgy, or heavy machinery sectors, electrical contactors and relays must endure harsh conditions with frequent on-off cycles, heat, and corrosion. Ag-WC contacts offer low contact resistance, high arc erosion resistance, and mechanical strength, reducing failure rates and maintenance needs.

3.Arc Welding and Electrical Processing Equipment
Ag-WC electrodes and contact components in arc welding machines, plasma cutters, and resistance welders can endure intense electrical arcing and thermal cycling. Its wear resistance ensures that electrode shape and function remain consistent over long operational periods.

4.Power Automation & Smart Grid Control Systems
As smart grid systems grow, Ag-WC is increasingly used in automated circuit breakers and intelligent switchgear. These systems must perform consistently across wide temperature ranges and high switching frequencies. Ag-WC is favored for low-voltage arcing environments where conventional silver contacts wear out quickly.

5.Transportation Sector: Railway, Aerospace, and Urban Transit
Ag-WC is used in the electrical contacts of high-speed trains, subways, and aircraft due to its resistance to vibration, corrosion, and temperature variation. Applications include pantograph sliders, power relays, and emergency power cut-off switches.

6.Renewable Energy Systems: Wind and Solar Power
In wind turbines and photovoltaic inverters, reliable DC switching and current protection are critical. Ag-WC is used in these components due to its superior resistance to arc-induced wear and temperature spikes compared to pure silver contacts.
